I wanted to give a unique gift that can last years. I’ve always wanted to make a blanket / quilt, but I lacked materials and self-denial. Looking for pattern lasted for weeks… I done it in 3 months, but only because i didn’t have to much time. It looks like this:
Unfortunately, the photo was taken with a poor light. Here a better piece:
The pattern for the center of the square looks like this:
Abbreviations:
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Ch – Chain
dc2tog – Double Crochet 2 stitches together (How to make these? A Tutorial)
- CH 6, join with slip stitch;
- CH, SC 11, join with slip stitch;
- CH 4, double treble, 2 double treble in every SC of the previous row, join with slip stitch;
- CH 3, dc2tog, CH 3, *dc3tog (just make 3 instead of 2), CH 3* – repeat ** the calculated amount, ending with join with slip stitch;
- CH, SC 4, *(DC 2, CH, DC 2) all in the chain of the previous row, SC 8* – repeat ** the calculated amount, ending with SC 4 and join with slip stitch;
- CH, SC 5, *half double crochet, DC, CH, DC, half double crochet, SC 10* – repeat ** the calculated amount, ending with SC 5 and join with slip stitch.
The most important is the proper joining of the new color. It is not difficult. After the joining the new color is best to cut all the strings after we finish the tip of the square and and hide it in needlework (preferably with a needle).
When we done a round and we want to join a new color, you have to keep crochet hook in stitch and then make a new color on crochet hookin the way, when we start needlework.
Now you have to drag the new color by loop of the old one, but knot of the new color has to be before old one. This knot should be not visible. You have to pull the thread.
It will looks like that.
As I wrote, we don’t cut the threads. We can hide it when we do needlework, but I prefer to hide at the end. I needed 63 squares for that blanket. The dimensions are 100 cm x 134 cm. I used a 4mm crochet hook.
In the next post I will show you how to stitch together squares.
Enjoy crocheting.
